Letter Tavt

The twenty-second letter of the Hebrew alphabet, the letter Tav has a long history of significance. In rabbinical tradition, it was the seal of God, of divine protection. In its Latin and Greek forms, it was sometimes scrawled in the form of a cross, and later became associated with life, resurrection, and blood sacrifice. In the thirteenth century, St. Francis of Assisi adopted it as his symbol.
